Swiss Round Table on Antibiotics

Incentives for new antibacterials

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most pressing challenges of our 21st century society. The private association Swiss Round Table on Antibiotics supports political decision-making and aspires to make a Swiss contribution to securing the availability of existing antibiotics and the revival of novel antibiotic development by means of an innovative incentive scheme. They identified the most critical gaps in the Swiss arsenal of antibiotics and suggested how a national investment case could be developed to incentivize R&D for new antibiotics.

Working together

A more innovation-friendly European biotech framework

Biotechnology applications are expanding globally into many areas beyond the pharmaceutical sector. A growing range of products meet consumer demands while contributing to sustainability and climate protection. However, the current European authorization process for these innovative products is unnecessarily burdensome and limits market access. Leading European business organizations have come together in the European Biosolutions Coalition to change this. Read the full article of the Swiss Biotech Report 2025 by Jan Lucht, Head Biotechnology at scienceindustries.

Plant breeding for a changing climate

Swiss research for sustainable agriculture

Global warming, biodiversity loss, and growing food demand threaten food security. The Swiss National Science Foundation is funding research using new breeding technologies to develop resilient, high-quality crops. Projects will explore agronomic applications, economic and ethical considerations, and policy frameworks, aiming to promote innovation and sustainable agriculture while reducing environmental risks.
