Establishing a Swiss-China biotech community chapter
The two partners aim to strengthen connections between the Chinese and Swiss biotech ecosystems and envisage establishing a Swiss–China chapter to promote both ecosystems and connect biotech leaders from the two countries.
Key areas are expanding networks, increasing the visibility of Swiss biotech companies in China and Chinese companies in Switzerland, and facilitating business, R&D, licensing, investment, and talent exchange. Joint events and activities are also planned, with participation in the Swiss Biotech Day and Global Village.
New framework for trade and innovation
UK–Switzerland free trade agreement supports life sciences
The UK and Switzerland have concluded negotiations on a modernized free trade agreement, strengthening conditions for bilateral trade, investment, and innovation. For life sciences, the agreement maintains key intellectual property protections for pharmaceuticals while supporting business mobility and cross-border collaboration.

Following the information event at the Federal Office for the Environment on August 19, the new document “Implementation of Nagoya Legislation in Switzerland” is now available online. The guidance provides information on implementing the relevant requirements in Switzerland and is available in German, French, and Italian.

Serial inventors behind high-impact biotech patents

Serial invention in biotech takes deep science, interdisciplinary teams, and a focus on real patient needs, supported by an ecosystem built for ambitious R&D over long time horizons. Two scientists working in Switzerland exemplify this approach. For more than 20 years, they have advanced antibodies for immunotherapy, particularly bi- and multispecific antibodies. Christian Klein and Pablo Umaña are the two most prolific inventors among biotech patents co-invented in Switzerland, with almost 300 patent families between them.
